ISIS 8 am-5:30 pm Wednesday, February 13
By Charles Aprill, MD, Frank Willard, PhD, Way Yin, MD
The International Spine Intervention Society (ISIS) seminar, Anatomy, Imaging, and Injection, includes a review of evidence-supported spinal interventions, anatomy, and radiologic imaging for the pain management physician. Injection and other interventional procedures for the diagnosis and treatment of chronic pain have seen blistering growth in utilization over the last decade. The number of devastating complications associated with injection procedures has increased in proportion to the number of such procedures being performed. Many injection procedures are commonly performed, but they lack evidence supporting efficacy. Through a scientifically oriented review, various evidence-supported spine interventions will be discussed.
An up-to-date review of spinal and peripheral anatomy and physiologic pain pathways will be presented. An introduction to imaging and correlative fluoroscopic anatomy associated with image-guided injections geared toward basic spinal interventions and basic radiographic review techniques will be covered.
ISIS Educational Objectives
ISIS qualifies for 8 credits of CME.
After completing this seminar, participants will be better able to understand
- basic mechanisms of chronic pain associated with peripheral and spinal facilitation
- basic types of complications associated with spine interventions
- techniques to minimize the risk of complications by understanding relevant regional anatomy and indications of spinal interventions
- basic interpretations of fluoroscopic and MRI imaging of the lumbar spine.
