    PROGRAM OVERVIEW

AAPM’s four distinct, live educational interventions are designed for clinicians interested in improving their knowledge and competence in the assessment, treatment, management, and evaluation of common pain disorders. AAPM expert faculty will offer clinically focused lectures and case-based presentations that target the assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of patients with various acute, breakthrough, cancer, end-of-life, and neuropathic pain syndromes.

    EXPECTED OUTCOMES

As a result of this CME activity, primary care providers will meet or exceed the needs of the patients they serve by improving the assessment, treatment, and management of common pain disorders. After participating in each of the AAPM PAINWeek Educational Sessions, participants will be able to

    • evaluate patients in pain with a focus on anatomy, physiology, psychiatry, and pathology
    • understand the neurophysiology of pain transmission
    • assess, appraise, and interpret medically unexplained physical symptoms to develop an appropriate treatment plan
    • describe pharmacological, interventional, rehabilitation, and advanced techniques for the treatment of common pain disorders
    • implement evidence-based protocols for appropriate opioid-prescribing practices
    • assess and manage complications in pain medicine related to opioids, NSAIDs, acetyl-para-aminophenol (APAP), and injection-based therapies
    • improve access to quality pain care to meet the needs and demands of the escalating pain populations.

    TARGET AUDIENCE

This education intervention will be targeted to primary care clinicians and healthcare professionals committed to improving access to quality, patient-centered pain care across the healthcare continuum.
