AAPMedicine and the American Geriatrics Society Collaborate on "Finding Relief – Pain Management for Older Adults" Guidebook and DVD
The American Academy of Pain Medicine (AAPM) is pleased to announce the completion of a joint effort with the American Geriatrics Society for a new educational booklet and DVD, Finding Relief – Pain Management for Older Adults, that is now available to AAPM members.
Sponsored by PriCara Pharmaceuticals, this new patient education resource includes a 36-page guidebook and a 30-minute DVD program. The materials are focused specifically on older adults and designed to educate them about pain, possible treatment options, and the responsible use of prescription medications. They also seek to reassure patients that there are ways to get relief and regain many functions lost to pain.
Raising the profile of AAPM and its leadership, the DVD includes an interview with AAPM’s President Rollin M. Gallagher, MD, MPH and Debra K. Weiner, MD, Pain & Aging Section Editor for AAPM’s Pain Medicine journal, as well as pain patients, including guest celebrity Kathy Baker. It will also air in five markets:
| Detroit - WWJ - Channel 62 | May 9 at 12 pm |
| Atlanta – WGCL - Channel 46 | May 16 at 12:30 pm |
| St. Louis - KDNL - Channel 30 | May 16 at 12 pm |
| Miami – WTVJ - Channel 6 | May 16 at 1 pm |
| Washington, DC – WJLA - Channel 7 | May 24 at 11:30 am |
A complimentary copy of the guidebook and DVD will be sent to each AAPM member in March 2009. Additional copies for use in your practice are available to AAPM members on a first-come, first-serve basis free of charge, with the addition of a modest shipping and handling fee.
