February Member Focus: Traci Speed, MD, PhD

AAPM is excited to spotlight Dr. Traci Speed, as our February 2025 member focus.
This February, AAPM highlights Dr. Traci Speed, a psychiatrist specializing in chronic pain management. She takes a holistic approach, addressing both mental and physical aspects of pain to restore hope for patients who feel they have exhausted all options.
At the Psychiatric Pain Program (PPP) and Johns Hopkins Hospital, Dr. Speed helps patients manage psychiatric conditions that exacerbate pain, such as depression and anxiety, while promoting brain retraining strategies. Her collaborative work spans multiple specialties, bridging the gap between behavioral health and pain medicine.
As an active AAPM member, Dr. Speed values mentorship, collaboration, and advocacy. She is committed to expanding education on behavioral health’s role in pain care and mentoring the next generation of clinicians—especially women.
Outside of work, she enjoys baking, dancing, hiking with her Schnauzer at Shenandoah National Park, and building Legos with her son.
