Hiding in Plain Sight-Recognizing Multifidus Dysfunction in Chronic Low Back Pain
Path LMS Courses
Mechanical chronic low back pain frequently persists despite appropriate conservative treatment, prompting clinicians to re-evaluate the underlying drivers of ongoing pain and functional impairment in this patient population. This webinar examines multifidus muscle dysfunction, characterized by impaired neuromuscular control, as an under-recognized pathology contributing to refractory chronic low back pain.
Through expert discussion and case-based application, Drs. Trent Emerick, Antje Barreveld, Vinicius Tieppo Francio, and Farshad Ahadian will examine the role of the multifidus in providing segmental stability and motor control to the lumbar spine, practical approaches to diagnosing multifidus dysfunction, and key considerations for patient selection – critically examining where restorative neurostimulation fits within the treatment continuum. The educational program will also explore the current body of clinical evidence, including the ReActiv8-B and RESTORE clinical trials, with a focus on pain, disability, health-related quality of life, long-term durability of effect, and safety outcomes.
